CV Expert Be Like

I’ve heard/ read some tips from CV experts, like remove certain information from your CV (marital status, sex, religion, state of origin, age, etc). I know you’ve seen/read/heard about it too.  I don’t totally agree with them because they excluded a PS which I feel is very important. While they are the CV expert, they are not the employer or the head of any recruitment team.  Every company is different and so is their culture. Let’s take a scenario of a job advert Cynthia’s Media is a startup company, we have an opening for a female accountant between the ages of 22-30 years young with no prior experience, must live in and hail from Rivers State and is willing to stay longer hours and work remotely on weekends. Now let’s get out the keywords  Startup (hardly hire married people for many reasons) Female (Sex) Age  Location State of origin Longer hours So when you exclude the information above on your biodata your CV may be dumped- no it’s not your skills darlin...

Corporate Life

One day l was asked 2 questions and I am certain some people are still in search of answers. So today #LETS #YAN His questions 1. Why do employers ask for leadership/ management qualification from candidates who apply for roles that has nothing to do leadership? 2. Why outsource people to fill up managerial roles when the company has staff that has been working for years and know a lot about the company? In a bid to cut down the up-down chain of decision-making, employers are encouraging a hands-off approach. And for a hands-off approach to being effective, companies look out for staff with a leadership mindset who can think out a solution/ decision without waiting on the management especially when it's an emergency.  So the next time you’re being interviewed as a cleaner/gateman and you’re asked about your leadership experience don’t frown at it.  Secondly, I don’t know if there are leaders out there who will hire incompetent people for a management role.  But if y...

My First Day At Work (Lumkalk)

It's a Friday morning, 11:27 am to be precise. I am in a construction company waiting for the accountant who is more like my direct boss- Avura (yeah you heard that right, l got a job ). She reminds me a lot about myself when l was in JD Lab, the person you would talk to, nice, accommodating, etc. To be frank, l love the place. It reminds me of JD Lab but it is different. It also reminds me of Cypher Crescent (a place l submitted my CV in 2019, you can't get into the building without your ID- it's your key) but the structure of the building reminds me of Cypher, not the key things. Today is my first day and l came late, l can't figure out why things happened the way they did but l came late and l have a good yet embarrassing reason.  I was in a Keke almost close to the office when l decided to take a deep breath and l felt my zip open (a gown) - the funny thing is before l left home l had this what if the zip gets spoilt but l shook it off because it only happened once...

My First Business Depression

I woke up sad, this isn't something new but unlike other times l know the reason for my pain. It started yesterday, l made the biggest loss. This was my first time and it's something one never hoped for.  l got back home from a stressful and annoying adventure and when l went to the shop to get credit card l saw the left-overs and not just the leftover, l got client feedback (the buns have so much groundnut oil in it) and it hurts. Though l blame me for making more when the market has been shaky, l do send out 50 and they get sold and l and made 40, and 2 remained, and l did 30 and it remained and yesterday l decided to do more and did 38 (28 was sold and 11 were leftovers). That's my biggest loss yet still pray it's the last. Sequel to the feedback, I've gotten the same feedback from a woman and another who said she liked the oil. It's confusing you know, one person says l like it, and others are saying otherwise and you're making this for them. So which s...

My Opinion on Public Wedding Proposals

Some people got engaged before, during, and after valentine's Day. Some people proposed publicly and others in their houses. We get all emotional when we watch videos where she said yes l will marry you regardless of the location (lekki mall, Container Bistro, Michael Garden, etc)   I know you've watched that video where a girl was overexcited and she started screaming and couldn't control her joy. (It's funny to some people, it's spiritual to some but nobody insulted the guy for proposing in public). But when we watch a video where the reply is "embarrassing" especially if the proposal is public we blame the men, insult them, and ask questions like What happen to proposing at home? You should know what your girl likes, does she like it public or hidden? Etc No one asked these questions when the reply was positive WHY??? This is my opinion: women are to be blamed for being in a relationship with someone they can't get married to. Even if a girl wants ...

Never Back Up Your lgnorance With The Bible

There are some words in the Bible l will never use. Not that the word of God is wrong but because l will never use them as a defense mechanism. A lot of verses in the Bible have been interpreted differently and as such used for backing up their ignorance. Some corrections are not meant for the outside world to see or hear. For some parents correcting their children in the presence of their friends and sometimes strangers is love (you know because the Bible say spare the rod and spoil the child and the Bible also said an open rebuke is better than hidden love) but for the children its an embarrassment. And then we have some pastors and life coaches who do this on a regular and they back it up with he is my son/she is my daughter. When you embarrass someone publicly what you need to do is to apologize, don't use the Bible as a reference to why you did it. We should quit quoting the Bible only to cover up our wrongs rather than apologize. Some will even say that's how l am, that...

Never make your Perception God's Standard

We all know God created Adam and Eve and after they are the Apple which was forbidden they realized they were naked, were ashamed and that's how putting on clothes was invented. So with this, will l be right to say God's initial plan was for man/woman to walk butt naked? (This is me thinking out loud).  My lord if l may proceed, let me tell you a story about Peter who lived in a small city in Africa. In his village, they walk around naked.  Peter was a servant to the King, one day his master traveled and he was in charge because he was most loved by his master. So one day Peter decided to take a stroll and 4 men ran to him, they needed an answer to a question. "Is it right for a man to be alone?? And his answer was it is good for a man to have a wife. But they were his followers they wanted to know his personal opinion because he was in his early 40s and unmarried, but he answered though a man should have a wife l choose a different path to be single to serve my master e...
